Kobel is the chief architect and commanding officer of the Earth Defence Force on Mars.

Lucius Kobel commands the Earth Defence Force during their reign over Mars (Location). He does not reside on the planet himself, preferring to remain in a massive spacecraft, named the EDS Hydra. The Hydra (Concept) ship is much like its Greek mythological namesake, being incredibly powerful with a massive presence included. Kobel is far from stupid, and has ensured that he is in a position to seize control of the EDF from Bertram Roth at a moment's notice, should the opportunity arise. Kobel is the final member of the EDF killed during Red Faction: Guerrilla, and he is killed using the Marauders technology and the base design of the Nano Rifle (Object). The Hydra is hit with a missile of sorts, packed with the nanites that make the Nano Rifle (Object) such a valuable piece of technology. These nanites rip into the Hydra at high speed, and likely kill Kobel alongside his craft.
