Shaojie Zhang was a member of the Triads before joining the XCOM. Despite his criminal past, he understood that now all of humanity faced a common enemy and their differences should be cast aside in order to defeat the aliens. This is evident from his quote: "I've crossed many lines during my life, but now we all face a common enemy." Once successfully extracted, he becomes available for recruitment always as a Heavy class Lieutenant and with the callsign 'Chilong'.
