Tamamo-no-Mae is a figure depicted in the Otogizoshi. A woman of peerless beauty and intellect, she gained the favor of Emperor Konoe. However, when the emperor mysteriously fell ill, Tamamo was revealed to be a kitsune, an evil nine-tailed fox, and the source of his illness. She was pursued and eventually put to death.
