AD&D Dark Sun Online: Crimson Sands
Dark Sun Online was part of the first wave of graphical MMORPG's. It used the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition ruleset and the same engine as the 1994 single player Dark Sun game.
The game launched in 1996, shortly before Tibiaand Ultima Onlineand became one of the first graphical MMORPG's to hit the market after Neverwinter Nights (Game). AT&T originally funded the development to create a competitor to AOL's Neverwinter Nights, but backed out after their plans for the Interchange Network service were scrapped. SSIcontinued development on their own and got the game released through the Total Entertainment Network (Company).
Following Pogo.com's acquisition of TEN in 1998, the development and server hosting for Dark Sun Online ceased.
