Overview
Bram Stoker's Dracula is the name of five 1993-1994 video game adaptations of the 1992 horror film of the same name (itself an adaptation of the 1897 Bram Stoker novel Dracula) from Psygnosis:
- The 16-bit version, co-developed by Traveller's Tales and released by Sony Imagesoft for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Platform) and Sega Genesis, play similar to action-oriented platformers, such as the Castlevania (Franchise) and Ghosts 'n Goblins series.
- Ther 8-bit version, co-developed by Probe and released by Sony Imagesoft for the Nintendo Entertainment System (Platform), Sega Master System (Platform), Game Boy (Platform), and Game Gear (Platform), is also an platformer, although it is more platforming-oriented.
- The Sega CD (Platform) version, released by Sony Imagesoft, is more of a side-scrolling beat-'em-up with minimal platforming. This is notable for super-imposing digitized actors as sprites on top of a pre-rendered environment that moves along with the player as full-motion video. It also features live-action FMV cutscenes, ripped straight from the film, and levels where Harker rides horseback.
- The Amiga (Platform) version, released by Psygnosis themselves, reworks parts of the Sega CD version (such as the digitized actors) into an exploration-focused platformer.
- The DOS PC version, also released by Psygnosis themselves, is instead a first-person shooter similar to Wolfenstein 3D (Game). Unlike traditional first-person shooters, players also move a cursor around the screen for aiming the gun.
Each of these games have a loose approximation of both the film and novel's story, with all of them putting players in the role of lawyer Jonathan Harker (Character) as he fights various monsters in Transylvania (Location) to pursue the evil vampire count Dracula (Character).
A pinball game adaptation was also released from Williams.
