Dark Tales: From the Lost Soul
GAME » on October 29, 1999
A Japanese-exclusive horror anthology adventure game for the PS1, telling three twisted tales of the supernatural.

Overview

Dark Tales: From the Lost Soul is a horror-themed adventure game developed by Vertex and published by Sammy for the Sony PlayStation exclusively in Japan on October 29, 1999. Similar to other horror-based anthology TV series (such as Tales from the Crypt), Dark Tales includes three separate stories, all introduced in full-motion video segments by the eccentric host of a club known as "The Lost Soul". These stories are:

  • Cat & Mouse, in which a hotblooded American detective pursues an inhuman serial killer into an abandoned amusement park.
  • Ghost Writer, in which a Japanese writer with a short deadline is sent a cursed CD-ROM to aid him.
  • The Honeymoon, in which a recently-married couple is on a road trip through an American desert highway, only to be hunted down by a killer police car.

Throughout each story, players must navigate the area while making key decisions and attempting quick-time events, with several branching paths and multiple endings for each story. Most of the game is in first-person, with some segments (such as a driving mini-game) shown in third-person.
