Overview

Furrifighters: Prequel I (Shòu Shè Gédòu Qiánchuán: Shàng, 兽设格斗前传: 上 in Chinese - roughly translated, Animal Fighting Prequel: Part 1) is a 2D fighting game developed and published on Steam (Concept) by Gāngqín Tù Cháchá. Released worldwide on March 31, 2022 but only available initially in Chinese, English translation began on August 8, 2024. The story concerns a group of anthropomorphic characters who have been given letters to a school's fighting club, "Shouxin". However, a grand conspiracy underlies these invitations.

Gameplay

Gameplay is typical of 2D (Concept) fighters. Control is utilized with a six-button scheme, with a light and heavy punch and kick, plus a "special" attack button and dodge button. Throws are performed by pressing backward or forward and one of the heavy attacks when in close, and throws can be teched with the same keys when the opponent attempts to throw the character. Most characters have command normals - attacks pressed with a direction + an attack button, which have special properties. All characters have several special moves, and one or two super moves. Utilizing the light or heavy version of a super move changes how much more damage the attack does and changes up the move in some way, but the heavy version takes 2 bars of meter to perform. The game itself is free, but DLC characters are paid expenses.
