Overview

Greg Norman Ultimate Challenge Golf is a golf simulation game developed by Friendly Software Corporation (Company) and published by Grolier Interactive (Company) for Windows PCs in January 1996. Playing similar to the Links (Franchise) series of golf games, Greg Norman Ultimate Challenge Golf features digitized sprites for both the golfers and the environment. Along with the traditional three-click swing setup in Arcade Mode, the game features a unique Sim Mode where players develop the attributes of their golfer (adjusting over 40 stats based on their strengths and playing style) for simulated golfing. Although not the first golf game endorsed by Australian professional golfer Greg Norman, it is the only one with him as a playable golfer (with his own unique characteristics for Sim Mode) and narrator. The game's built-in course is the Medalist Golf Club, in Florida's Treasure Coast region in the United States. As the course was co-designed by Norman himself, he narrates the fly-by's for each Hole. It later received a "Version 2" re-release, with additional features and improvements and a new original course (Dorset Cliffs, which can be played in either spring, summer, or autumn seasons). It was also sold in a bundle by SegaSoft (known as Golf: The Ultimate Collection) with British Open Championship Golf (Game), Picture Perfect Golf (Game), and a golf guide application known as GolfAmerica. The game later received a spiritual successor with the studio's entries in the Microsoft Golf (Franchise) series (Microsoft Golf 1998 Edition (Game) and Microsoft Golf 1999 Edition (Game)).
