Overview

Klonoa Beach Volleyball, known in Japan as Klonoa Beach Volley: Saikyō Team Kettei-sen! ("Strongest Team Finals!") is a 3D two-on-two belt-scrolling volleyball game developed by Klonoa Works and published by Namco (Company) (with Sony Computer Entertainment publishing it in Europe) for the PlayStation (Platform) in Japan on April 25, 2002 and in Europe on September 20, 2002. It never received a North American release.

A spin-off of the Klonoa (Franchise) series of platformers, Klonoa Beach Volleyball puts the series' characters in a two-on-two volleyball tournament reminiscent of beach volleyball (although only a few of the courts take place on a beach).

Along with a wide variety of characters, abilities, balls, and courts, the game is known for its unique "Friends Mode", where one controller can be used by two players at the same time (with one player's controls on the left side of the controller and the other player's controls on the right side of the controller). This allows a four-player game without the use of a multitap.

It is notable for being the last Namco-published game for the original PlayStation, not counting some European bundle releases. It is also the first game in the series with traditional English/Japanese voice acting, rather than the series's fictional language.

Characters

The game includes 12 total characters, several of whom are from the main Klonoa games (mostly Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil). The game's main antagonists, Guntz and Garlen (Character), make their first appearances in this game before appearing in the handheld games Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament and Klonoa Heroes: Densetsu no Star Medal.

Each character is split up into four types: Balance, Power (who excel at attacking), Speed (who excel at receiving), and Technique (who excel in blocking and feinting).
