An official free-to-play adaptation of the classic Windows game Minesweeper for Windows Phone 7.

Overview

Minesweeper (not to be confused with the original game of the same name) is a free-to-play puzzle game developed by Babaroga (Company) and released digitally by Microsoft Game Studios for Windows Phone 7 devices on August 24, 2011. Based on the PC game of the same name, Minesweeper is rebuilt from the ground up for touch controls while adhering to Microsoft's Metro interface. Similar to the original game, players must uncover tiles on a tiled board while avoiding hidden landmines (whose locations are deduced by the player, as uncovered tiles show how many mines surround it). Similar to the studio's adaptation of Sudoku, Minesweeper adds a variety of new features to the original, including Xbox Live support (with leaderboards and achievements), a persistent XP system, with unlockable power-ups, and an alternate game mode ("Speed", which involves a countdown timer). As a free-to-play game, the game includes basic banner advertisements. The game later received a spiritual successor with Microsoft Minesweeper (Game).
