Overview
Rival Rebels is a sci-fi open world multiplayer game developed by Rival Rebels Studios, owned by Rodol Phito. Based in the United States. The game was first announced on Nov 2, 2016 on Rodol Phito’s YouTube channel. The Alpha was released as paid early access for PC and Mac on Feb 15, 2019.
Rival Rebels features nuclear devices, an in-game building system, customizable players, and modular ships, weapons, and machines.
The modular system allows the player to exchange and combine parts of different weapons and vehicles to alter the device’s results. The game’s damage system deforms, detaches, and breaks 3D models.
The building system lets the player build complex structures by using the Shaper tool. This tool creates convex hulls and cuboids that can be extended, rotated, texturized, copy/pasted, and saved as blueprints.
Most 3D models can be customized in-game through the Airbrush tool. The tool allows painting and applying decals from a big selection of glyphs and symbols that can be positioned and edited through sliders.
The different server-maps are formula generated, allowing almost instant server transitions of enormous scenarios.
Tyranika, Rgiant and the rest of the server-maps are fully interactive signed distance field (SDF) fractal formulas, rendered with raymarching shaders, and incorporated with a custom SDF physics engine.
Origins
Encouraged by the success of his Rival Rebels mod for Minecraft, Rodol Phito started working on the Rival Rebels game concept in 2015, experimenting with procedural terrain generation, prototyping 3D models, and flying controls. All designs and features were developed focused on efficiency, factual science, modularity, and player freedom.
Gameplay
Players start in the Skyclone, a resuscitation room operated by robotic arms. The Skyclone serves as a respawning point and character customization facility. Players can change gender with a slider, as well as body, hair, eyes, suit colors, buffness, shininess, accessories, and even choose a cat head.
After exiting the Skyclone, players go to one of the sixteen hangars on the squadron base. The base, which sits on top of an asteroid, was built by Rodol Phito using the same in-game building system available to all players.
The hangar contains each player’s possessions, ships, machines, tools, weapons, and anything gained in the game. The player can climb the Corsaire 3 gunship, board it and take off to abandon the hangar without any transition. After escaping the asteroid, the player can pick between different server-map destinations to battle mobs or other players, build structures, explore, pilot different vehicles, or blow up nuclear devices.
Ships can be shared by players in a co-op manner to facilitate roleplaying and group activities.
RPG
Rival Rebels’ economy is based on anti-time, an exotic particle central to the lore of the game. Rodol Phito’s novel “Rival Rebels: The Astrofortress” introduces the universe and backstory in a funny and fast-paced action-packed adventure. The book was published on Nov 14, 2019.
The first cutscene video “The Star Ring city” was shown on Dec 7, 2018 and is part of the game lore content available on [https:/rgiant.com https://rgiant.com/].
The game includes many roleplaying features like reputation, ranks, factions, guilds, and units that promote cooperation in a community driven framework.
Skill tiers and other player’s progress and abilities can be gained throughout the game by discovering elements, materials, blueprints, and modular parts. The player’s progress and abilities can be accessed through the Rival Rebels website.
