Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II is a 2.5D side-scrolling platformer developed by Dimps (in conjunction with Sonic Team) and published digitally by Sega for the Xbox 360 (Platform) (via Xbox Live Arcade), PlayStation 3 (Platform) (via PlayStation Network (Concept)), PC (Platform) (via Steam (Concept)), and iOS and Android (Platform) devices on May 15-17, 2012. It was later released for the Ouya (Platform) on July 3, 2013.
The sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, Episode II brings back numerous elements from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Game) and Sonic CD (Game), including Sonic's buddy Tails (Character) as a co-operative companion (played either as A.I. or with another player, both online and offline) and the return of both Little Planet (Location) and Metal Sonic (Character). The game also featured Red Star Rings from Sonic Colors (Game) and Sonic Generations (Game) and replaces the Special Stage with the one used in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Game).
Players who own Episode I on the same system can play a bonus episode, titled "Episode Metal", in which players play as Metal Sonic (Character) solo through a shortened modified version of the four zones from Episode I.
For Xbox 360 players, multiple avatar items were released for purchase on the Xbox Live Marketplace. All attire is available for both genders.
