Star Trek (1971)
An early text-based strategy game based on Star Trek, wherein the player hunts down Klingon ships with phasers and torpedoes. The goal is to eliminate all Klingon vessels and have the Enterprise survive.
Overview
In 1971, Mike Mayfield developed Star Trek after playing Spacewar! in the computer lab at University of California, Irvine. Written on the Sigma 7, Star Trek required use of a teleprinter. After visiting the Hewlett-Packard sales office, Mayfield was offered time on their HP 2000C minicomputer in order to write a new version in HP's version of BASIC, which was released in 1973.
