In Telestians, players take the role of a master warlord who controls his armies in order to conquer all other opponents. As a turn-based strategy game taking place in a high-fantasy setting, players control all strategic movements and tactics. Maps can be custom made or randomly generated. A fog of war requires the player to explore the map to view the world. Each army can only move so many tiles each turn. Battles occur when one unit moves onto a tile occupied by an enemy army. Battles automatically play out in a 1v1 style. Strengths of each army unit are compared, units with higher strength are more likely to hit their opponent. Each hit causes a loss of hit point, and reaching zero hit points kills the unit.
Players can take control and play as one of nine factions:
Castles allow building of armies, and generate gold. Upgraded castles provide more defensive strength bonuses during battle. If a player loses all their castles, they will have lost and be eliminated from the game.
The game starts with every player having a Hero. More Heroes arrive as you accomplish actions (e.g. battling units, taking over castles, etc...). A Hero can search ruins where they can find gold, allies, monsters, and/or magical weapons. Heroes can also take on quests from temples. These quests will pit the Hero up against legendary monsters, and upon victory, the Hero will find the most powerful magical weapons- allowing them to make a major change to the outcome of the game
