The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother
A mystery adventure game set in the Apothecary Diaries world as Maomao tries to unravel the truth behind a masked vigilante
In a fictional country heavily inspired by Tang-era China, a girl named Maomao works as a servant for the Emperor's concubines, while being given tasks by the head eunuch Jinshi of the Rear Palace. But this latest mystery will test all of her wits and skills: A masked man calls himself the Emperor's younger brother, and the townsfolk are abuzz with speculation that he is a vigilante member of the royal family, righting the wrongs of the corrupted Imperial Court. However, Jinshi insists that he is not this masked man. Who could this masked man be, is he truly connected to the Emperor's family, and what is his relation to the rumored Five Mysteries of the Rear Palace and Five Curses of the castle town?
As Maomao, players will have time to gather herbs from both inside the palace grounds and outside in the surrounding city. By combining certain herbs and powders together, Maomao can create medicines and other chemical substances. This will also help her (and the player) when Maomao is called upon to investigate crime scenes, and use unofficial forensic pathology to determine the cause and potentially the culprit of the crime.
