Overview

The Scottish Open: Virtual Golf is a golf simulation game developed and published by Core Design Limited (in-game under their "Core Sports" label) for DOS PCs in Europe in 1995. Based on the real-life Scottish Open golf tournament, the game includes four courses to choose from (including a recreation of the Carnoustie Golf Links) and is touted as "the first golf game to use a real time 3-D environment" (in an era where most golf simulation games pre-render their views of the course). It also received conversions for the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn, both released under the simpler title of Virtual Golf. While it has all four courses, it no longer includes any mention of the Scottish Open (or its mode of the same name). Both versions later received a Japanese release by Victor Entertainment (Company) on August 23, 1996 under the name Tournament Leader. The Japanese PS1 version was later re-released on March 25, 1999 as Golf ni Ikou! Tournament Leader.
