The Spatials takes 1 part Dwarf Fortress and 1 part Star Trek and melds the two together.
Gameplay involves building and expanding a base that can house and support the players' officers and visitors, as well as ranging ever farther to obtain necessary resources through "away missions" on ever more difficult planets.
Officers start as generic "redshirts" who can perform any task but not particularly well, but they slowly specialize into different designations which can perform certain tasks at a better rate: engineering, science, navigation and security (as well as the appropriately colored 'Starfleet' uniforms).
