Manager of Manchester United.


Sir Alex Ferguson is currently the manager of Manchester United. He has been manager of Manchester United from November 1986. Before that he was manager of East Stirlingshire, St Mirren and Aberdeen.    


Playing Career

Before he was a manager he played as a striker at a number of clubs. These clubs included Queens Park and St Johnstone before signing for Dunfermline where he became a full time professional footballer. He left Dunfermline for Rangers for a fee of £65,000 which was a record transfer between 2 scottish clubs at the time. Nottingham Forest wanted to sign Ferguson but his wife did not want to move to England so he joined Falkirk instead. While at Falkirk her got promoted to player cpach before being demoted. He then moved to Ayr United where he finished off his playing days  

Managerial Career

In 1974 Ferguson got his first managerial job at the young age of 32. The club he managed was East Stirlingshire. It was a part time job that paid £40 per week. He then managed St Mirren before moving to Aberdeen. While managing Aberdeen he won the Scottish League 3 times, the Scottish Cup 4 times, the Scottish league cup once, UEFA cups winners cup once and the UEFA Super Cup once.   He left Aberdeen to manage Manchester United on 6th November 1986. He had a tough few seasons at Manchester United and was reportedly one game away from being fired in 1990. That game was against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup. Manchester United won 1-0 and went on to win the cup that year.   During the 1992/93 season Ferguson bought french striker Eric Cantona from Leeds for a fee of £1.2 million. Cantona worked really well with another Manchester United forward, Mark Huges. This was the basis of a title winning team. Ferguson guided his team to his first league title in England in the 1992/93 season. they won the title with a 10 point gap over second placed Aston Villa. Manchester United were the first ever premier league champions.    In the following season Alex Ferguson brought in Roy Keane from Nottingham Forest for £3.75 million which was a british transfer record at the time. They went on to win the league that season aswell as the FA Cup.  

       

He is the most successful manager in Manchester United history.
