Virginia Capers
Accomplished stage theater, and television actress. Known to the gaming community for her voice over narration work in Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers.
Acting Career
Virginia Capers began her acting career through broadway theater performances, in Jamaica of 1957. Soon after, winning the Tony for best actress in a musical for her performance in "Raisin". Eventually her talents brought her to the small screen, where she made appearances on the show "The Waltons". Other appearances followed shortly after, such as "Mork and Mindy" "St. Elsewhere" and "My Three Sons".
Her most notable roles include the part of "Sister Pearl" in the 1978 film "The Great White Hope", and 1972's "Lady Sings the Blues" of the role "Mama Holiday" as jazz singer Billie Holidays mother.
Her later achievements include roles in popular 80's and early 90's television shows, such as "Married with Children", "Murder She Wrote", and "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". She also founded a repertory theatre in Los Angeles for African American performers, called "The Lafayette Players". She received the NAACP's image award for theatre excellence, as well as the Paul Robeson Pioneer Award.
Virginia Capers died of pneumonia in Los Angeles, California. She was 78.
