Don Paolo is a criminal mastermind and renowned scientist. He is also the self proclaimed arch nemesis of Professor Hershel Layton.

Don Paolo impersonates Inspector Chelmey (Character) in Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Game) to hinder Professor Layton and Luke's progress in finding the Golden Apple long enough for him to find it himself. At the end of the game he chases Professor Layton in a large flying machine with wrecking balls. In Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (Game) he kidnaps Flora in the town of Dropstone and impersonates her, despite the obvious size difference. He is using Professor Layton and Luke in order to find the secret of the Elysian Box. He is not found out until much later in the game but manages to escape the clutches of the Professor and Inspector Chelmey (Character).
