Crosscountry USA is an educational text-based semi-trailer truck driving game developed and published by Didatech Software for the Apple II (Platform) in 1985. Designed to teach students (grades 4-9) about the geography of the United States of America, Crosscountry USA tasks them with navigating the country's contiguous roadways as a truck driver in order to pick up and deliver various commodities between various cities. Much of the game involves using text-based commands to control the driver's actions, such as reading the map, using the truck's instruments, and navigating which direction to drive. Designed for realism, players are scored based on the trip's expenses and must overcome various challenges that come with truck driving to mitigate these expenses, such as managing proper time and route management, keeping the driver from being tired and hungry, and preventing accidents and tickets. The game received multiple sequels as part of the Crosscountry (Franchise) series, each focusing on particular regions (including the entirety of Canada, as well as the U.S. states of California, Texas, and North Dakota). It also received an updated revision in 1994 for DOS PCs and Macintosh computers. Along with higher-definition graphics and sound, the revision features an updated point-and-click interface. It later received a sequel in 2002, known as Crosscountry USA 2.
