EcoQuest: The Search for Cetus, sometimes known as EcoQuest I, is an aquatic-themed educational point-and-click adventure game developed and published by Sierra (Company) for DOS PCs in 1991.
While it is similar in style to the other games in Sierra's "Quest" lines of point-and-click adventure games (such as King's Quest, Space Quest (Franchise), and Police Quest (Franchise)), EcoQuest shifts the focus to edutainment, teaching kids about marine biology and conservation. It also has a strong environmentalist message, with the main protagonist encountering the consequences of the harmful actions of mankind (such as littering, chemical spills, and commercial fishing).
The game's main protagonist is Adam, the 10-year-old son of an ecologist, as he takes it upon himself to nurse a sick dolphin back to health. One day his labor pays off, as the dolphin begins to speak to him. The dolphin, named Delphineus, needs his help in finding the whereabouts of Cetus, the Great Whale (Concept) King of the lost underwater kingdom of Eluria. Along the way, they'll encounter various sea life to assist (of which Adam an communicate with) and help clean up the environment.
The game received a CD-ROM re-release in 1992, adding voice acting. It also received a sequel in 1993, known as Lost Secret of the Rainforest, where it shifts the focus from marine life to the rainforest.
