Midnight Run: Road Fighter 2 is a 3D street racing game developed by KCE Osaka and released by Konami (Company) for arcades in Japan (on December 1995) and worldwide (on March 1996). A named sequel to the 1984 game Road Fighter (Game) and playing more like its successor Konami GT (Game) (as well as racing games of the time like Ridge Racer (Game) and Tokyo Highway Battle (Game)) , Midnight Run puts players in street races at three highway courses based on the infamous real-life Shuto Expressway (Location). It is known for choosing between normal and tuned cars, for its scoring system (which keeps track of the number of cars passed), and for allowing players to switch transmissions (automatic and manual) on-the-fly. The game was distributed in two cabinet types: a large Deluxe cabinet and a twin Dual cabinets. Multiple machines be linked up at once for four-player multiplayer. The game was also ported by KCGA to the Sony PlayStation in both Japan (on December 27, 1997) and Europe (on January 1998 as Midnight Run), and received a successor with the 1996 game Winding Heat (Game).
